Dear Kindergarten Rachel,
Hey, you might be wondering who I am. And that’s a very reasonable question to ask. It is me, or I guess you from the future. 5th Grade you to be exact. You might be wondering, why am I writing to you? Now how do I know this is what you are thinking? I’m you, silly!
I have some good advice for you. The first piece of advice I am going to give you is to say “yes” more. I’m sorry that I am being so secretive. You will understand why I am being so unclear later, I promise. People are going to ask you to play. And though it might be easier to just say no, don’t. You are going to miss out on so many key social opportunities by saying “no.” Saying a simple “yes” will have a massive, positive impact on your social life. I’m not saying the reason why, but I want you to trust yourself, or me I guess.
Do things that scare you or things that you find scary. It becomes more and more overwhelming the longer you wait to tackle it. So do something about it–you’ll thank me later. This will help you have more confidence in yourself with friends.
You are going to learn something about yourself that will have a huge effect on how you navigate school, and more importantly you as a person. It’s called ADHD. But don’t worry about what it means. I am, however, going to tell you the following saying, “It’s not your problem, but it is your challenge.”
To end on a positive note, you are going to struggle at first, but I want you to stay strong. Though it may feel like you are not finding success, don’t stop. You can do this, it just takes some time.
Sincerely,
- 5th Grade Rachel
